A thug who tried to burgle a house in the early hours was stabbed by the disabled homeowner he was attempting to rob. Shamas Malik met with more resistance than he bargained for during the raid in Park Grove, Hull, on August 6.
Prosecutor Alasdair Campbell told the court that the door had been kicked, but didn't give way, before Malik used a la dder to climb into the open first-floor window. The burglar had his face covered with a balaclava and was wielding a claw hammer. Top UK & World stories today Mr Campbell said: "The police did not know at that stage the full extent of what had happened. This was clearly a targeted attack by a number of individuals on the property of a vulnerable individual. This defendant came armed and equipped for burglary. He was part of a group. He had a face covering."
Malik, who had no previous convictions, admitted aggravated burglary. Mr Arshad said: "The offending would appear to be very much out of character."
