Harris County enacts outdoor burn ban due to drought conditions
Harris County Commissioners Court on Tuesday approved an outdoor burn ban due to ongoing drought conditions, joining 143 other counties in Texas.MORE ON DROUGHT:"The burn ban is meant to ensure the safety of our residents and their properties," Fire Marshal Laurie L. Christensen said in a statement."We want to encourage residents to adhere to wildfire risk education and preparedness at all times yet, especially in these very dry conditions.
Under the Harris County ban, no outdoor burning is allowed, with a few exceptions: in an enclosure that contains all flames and sparks, approved ceremonial fires, non-commercial cooking such as backyard cookouts, and welding and other"hot work" performed in accordance with county fire code requirements.
