A proposed county policy would require contractors to provide worker safety training on county projects.Harris County, which undertakes an enormous amount of construction projects on road, bridges and other infrastructure annually, will begin requiring contractors to provide and pay for safety training for their employees working on county projects.

The new policy will require workers on county projects to receive federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration safety training. In 2019, the court voted to work on a policy that would allow them to consider contractor safety records in awarding bids. "We need a skilled and empowered workforce that can meet our region's labor demands and help build a thriving, resilient Harris County," Ellis said."Harris County has a responsibility to help strengthen and protect our workforce. That's what this policy does."
