Ralph Rodriguez had the man at gunpoint early Saturday on Berryhill Street.

Ralph Rodriguez, Harrisburg City Councilman, confronts an unknown man standing outside All You Can, Inc., Rodriguez's nonprofit charity at around 1:15 a.m. Saturday. Rodriguez drew his gun and has a concealed carry permit, but no shots were fired.Harrisburg Councilman Ralph Rodriguez figured out who tried to break into his nonprofit office early Saturday wearing a mask and gloves.

From talking with the man, Rodriguez said he learned he takes care of his 77-year-old father and was “down on his luck.” He was unable to find a job, tired of having nothing and running out of options. So he told Rodriguez he left his home in Allison Hill overnight Friday into Saturday, and walked as far as he could, looking for the “darkest” neighborhood. That’s where he found the office to All You Can, Rodriguez’ nonprofit that has helped hundreds of Harrisburg residents over the past decade.

Once he found out the office he had been casing belonged to All You Can, a nonprofit he recognized, he was ashamed, Rodriguez said. The man said he knew he had to apologize and surrender. The man had previously graduated from the city’s main high school, had no criminal record and came forward, ready to accept any punishment from the legal system, Rodriguez said. Police are still investigating and determining what charges might be applicable in the case.
