Nottingham headteacher doing best to help 'working poor' families in summer holiday

A Nottingham headteacher has voiced concerns over the costs of living crisis as schools break for the summer holiday. As some may think of the summer break as a chance to go abroad, families living in the city's most deprived areas are more concerned about putting food on the table.

It would be for three weeks of the holiday." Staff are available at the school to advise parents on the benefits and extra funding that they could apply for. A food bank is also available at the school for the families who are struggling amid the rising costs.

"Everything has doubled so a lot of parents are worrying about how they are going to pay for uniforms, particularly those who are going to secondary school. We do not make any profit and the parents can buy the uniforms from their local supermarket. Nottingham City Council will give out over £3.5million to struggling pensioners, families and the city’s most vulnerable households to help with the rising cost-of-living crisis. The council’s Executive Board formally accepted the funds from the Government’s Household Support Fund in April.
