Hundreds of people lined up outside Ss Peter and Paul’s Church in Kiltullagh, Co Galway, as the funeral cortege, led by two Garda motorbike riders, arrived at the church for her funeral Mass on Sunday afternoon
The funeral of 12-year-old Saoirse Ruane - who captured the nation’s hearts with her courageous battle against bone cancer - has been remembered as a “wonderful little angel,” who is now the “Saint of Kiltullagh.”
Chief mourners at Saoirse’s funeral included her heartbroken parents Ollie and Roseanna and her little sister Farrah Rose, her half sister Rebecca, grandparents Anne Ruane, Tony and Ann Brehony, uncles, aunts, cousins and extended family and friends. He also said he will be “bringing the thousands of messages” people posted offering their condolences on the passing of brave Saoirse
Her hurl and medals representing her sheer joy playing camogie, her beads of courage from Crumlin Hospital - each representing an operation, treatment, procedure or chemo she underwent, a harp representing her love of music, a school photo representing her amazing friends and a photo of her first pet, Willow.
