Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle will no longer use their HRH titles and will return the £2.4million of taxpayer funds used on the Frogmore Cottage renovation
Prince Harry will have to endure a particularly personal loss as he steps down as a "senior" royal - the loss of his military titles and appointments.
The Sussex pair will also no longer receive public funds for their work and will return the Sovereign Grant funds used for refurbishments to their Windsor home Frogmore Cottage last year. While working as a royal, he has also showed his passion for the army when he founded the Invictus Games, a competition for injured, sick and wounded Armed Forces personnel and veterans.
He once told a fellow soldier: "I've got the best of both worlds. I get to do all this. I can fly helicopters. I can shine a spotlight on the work I want to do." His highest profile military title is as Captain General of the Royal Marines, a role he was handed by the Queen in December 2017, succeeding the Duke of Edinburgh - but now that role will be given to another.
