Hallgrímsson will kick off his Ireland reign with the Nations League visit of England on Saturday September 7.
Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson is worried that a famous win over England in eight days’ time could turn into a Greek tragedy.
And if his players were to come away with a positive result, the celebrations could turn out to be a distraction ahead of the Greece game three days later. “I’m really looking forward to that,” he said. “Everybody has told me and everybody has said that it’s like we’re playing one game, we’re only playing England.“I always say that there’s two games. We play Greece only three days later and that’s a game we should not forget and we need to focus on that.”
He also spoke about the long-term potential for Irish club football because of Brexit rules forbidding players to move to the UK before the age of 18.
