The 200- and 400-meter specialist plans to keep training to run faster
Setting and accomplishing goals proved highly successful for Helix’s Adren Parker this season, so it’s worth noting what he wants in 2023.
“We decided to peak a little at Arcadia and Mt. SAC and then bring it back down before peaking again at the end of the season,” Parker said. “I ran a lot of 200s to build up my speed and kept lifting. Parker found himself in a footrace in the 400 preliminaries in Clovis, going step by step with Fresno Cathedral senior Jeremiah Walker. Walker “won” with a lean in 46.81. The senior also showed what a difference a year can make when he came back to really win the event a day later, running 47.49.While Walker had run at state as a freshman, Parker’s ninth- and 10th-grade seasons were canceled statewide because of COVID.
“He’s very special — he has the size — and I expect him to run a sub-21 second 200. I look at him and I see a young Michael Norman.”
