Who are the top central Ohio girls wrestling teams heading into the 2022-23 season?
– The Monarchs return several wrestlers from a team that finished second in the individual state tournament last season. Marysville, which won the individual state championship in 2021, promoted assistant Tim Crane to take over the team. The top returnee is senior Cali Leng, who finished second at state last season at 120 pounds after winning the state title at 116 as a sophomore. Also back is senior Aubrey Reese, who was second at state at 155 last season and fifth at 160 as a sophomore.
Her team features senior Lily Grayem, who was fourth at state at 155 last season as well as two others who competed at state in senior Gifty Yeboah and junior Erin Scully . Watterson tied for 46th at state. After having eight competitors last season, the Eagles hope to have a fuller lineup this winter.– The Raiders return three competitors with state experience, including junior Summer Batts, who won a district title and was eighth at state at 100 last winter.
