New Jersey's most affluent communities had property tax bills upwards of $20,000 in 2021.
The average property tax bill in New Jersey was $9,284 in 2021, a $172 increase over the previous year and among the highest in the nation.
In the Garden State’s most affluent communities, however, property taxes soared well above $21,000, with some homeowners seeing year-over-year increases of $700 or more on average. Still, there were some bright spots in 2021, with more municipalities in the top 30 seeing decreases or only slight increases in the average bill.
