President, who is on a trip to Manchester calls for renewed push for a two-state solution to the conflict in the Middle East that finalises the borders of all sides

President Michael D Higgins, who suffered a minor stroke eight weeks ago, on Wednesday delivered a speech lasting more than one hour to a crowd of more than 500 people at the University of Manchester.

The President, who is due to give a landmark speech this evening at the University of Manchester on academic freedom, also decried the “heavy burden” being borne by Ireland’s Jewish community during theLeinster provide too many players to the national squad for it to be an equitable system‘When our last embryo failed, the clinic told us there was nothing more they could do for us’

“I strongly agree with him,” said Mr Higgins. He also criticised Israel over the persistence of conditions in Gaza that have led to widespread malnutrition among children. Mr Higgins suggested world leaders must make another concerted push for a two-state solution to the decades-old conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, and to finally settle the borders of both nations.
