The High Court has rejected a defamation claim by Denis O'Brien
The court has found in favour of Irish newspaper The Sunday Business Post following a suit taken against them by businessman O'Brien. The case referred to an article published by the newspaper in 2015 which named O'Brien.CEO of the newspaper Siobhán Lennon said:"Now more than ever a strong, independent and objective media is essential to a functioning democracy."
Lennon also noted Ireland's extremely strict defamation laws in her statement, saying:"The case highlights the extent to which Ireland's defamation laws place significant constraints on all Irish media outlets in their efforts to provide robust, objective and fair scrutiny of the stories that matter to Irish democracy.
