In Ireland, 15 per cent of households spend more than 30 per cent of their pay on housing compared to 20 per cent in Europe
Irish households are less likely to face housing affordability issues than other European countries, new research by the Economic and Social Research Institute has shown.
However, those in the highest wage brackets in Ireland who are renters face worse affordability for their housing than their European counterparts. A household is considered to face affordability issues if rent or mortgage costs exceed 30 per cent of the household’s income.
