Clinton will hold the position for the next five years
Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been named as the new Chancellor of Queen's University Belfast. She becomes the first woman to hold the position in the university's 171 year history.
Clinton succeeds Dr. Tom Moran, who passed away last year, in the prestigious role. She will act as an advisor to the senior management of the university for the next five years. From time to time, Clinton will also preside at degree congregations. Accepting the position, Secretary Clinton, said: “It is a great privilege to become the Chancellor of Queen’s University, a place I have great fondness for and have grown a strong relationship with over the years. The University is making waves internationally for its research and impact and I am proud to be an ambassador and help grow its reputation for excellence.”
Clinton has long been involved in Northern Ireland politics, dating back to her time as First Lady during the signing of the Good Friday Agreement.Stephen Prenter, Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Senate, the University’s governing body, said: “I am delighted that Queen’s has chosen Hillary Clinton to be its new Chancellor.
