Holidaymakers could get more than £500 in compensation in some cases

In some cases, they could get as much as £520 if they meet the right conditions. According to Citizens Advice, you can get compensation regardless of which airline you flew with under a few conditions.

If the flight was delayed for more than three hours you could get back the following, depending on how far away your destination is: In the case that your flight was delayed by five hours or more, you have further rights. For example, the airline is legally obliged to provide a full refund for the flight and other flights included in the same booking as well as a flight back to the airport you departed from if you're halfway through a journey.

If your flight is cancelled, you have the legal right to either a full refund or a replacement flight. Furthermore, if the cancellation delays you by two or more hours, you can later claim back compensation, as long as you received less than two weeks' notice of the cancellation.
