As a ten-year-old boy he escaped a round-up of Jews in his native Poland and fled into the forests. Jan survived but his entire family died in a death camp.
Ireland's last two Holocaust survivors will play a central role at the National Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration on the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. President Michael D Higgins will also attend the event in Dublin's Mansion House to honour and remember the six million Jewish people who perished during World War II.
This years ceremony will also be attended by Kinga Paszko, who was born in Poland, but is now based in Co Dublin.
