About 100,000 people have been planning to travel to Ireland for Christmas using Holyhead-Dublin ferry

Both Irish Ferries and Stena Line have been working on putting on new freight and passenger ferry services to compensate for the loss of the Holyhead to Dublin route.

Earlier Mr Skates said it was “absolutely vital” that the airlines assisted people in getting back to Ireland. “We’re identifying as much spare capacity as possible, to be able to utilise other ports to get ferries to and from Ireland. Mr Skates acknowledged that there had been uncertainty about the reopening of Holyhead Port, which is operated by Stena Line Ports Ltd, and said it was “absolutely vital” that there was certainty within the next 24 hours.
