The woman was wrongly flagged by a system called Facewatch
An innocent consumer reported that she was left devastated after being mistakenly accused of theft at a Home Bargains retail store, due to an error in a newly-implemented facial recognition system used by shops to find shoplifters.
She relayed her experience to BBC: "Within less than a minute, I'm approached by a store worker who comes up to me and says, 'You're a thief, you need to leave the store'. I was just crying and crying the entire journey home... I thought, 'Oh, will my life be the same? I'm going to be looked at as a shoplifter when I've never stolen'", reports the Mirror.
"We can use it to point our resource at the most wanted, who have committed the most prolific offending and that ability to prioritise is really key at a time when our resources are spread quite thinly."
