The 81-year-old woman was found by volunteers from the charity Reaching Out for Homeless sitting outside the GPO on O'Connell Street around 9.30pm last night
The woman was found by volunteers from the charity Reaching Out for Homeless sitting outside the GPO on O'Connell Street around 9.30pm.
They contacted Dublin City Councillor Christy Burke who was able to secure two nights hotel accommodation through Dublin City Council. "It’s disgraceful that an elderly woman should be wandering the streets like this. It seems she had been discharged from hospital. She insisted she did not want to go into a hostel," he said.
The woman was described as being from Dublin but "very private" and it is not know if she has any family. Cllr Burke said he was confident that more secure accommodation would be found for her through one of the homeless charities.
