Several hostels for people experiencing homelessness in England are being forced to close their doors as cash-strapped councils slash funding Kent County Council is in the process of removing funding from its homelessness service 🔴 luciemheath reports
This includes removing staff from a five-bed house it provides support within and closing down another seven-bed house entirely.
“On 30 June if they haven’t got anywhere to go then they will be homeless,” Ms Jardine said, adding that the charity will “support them” and is working with the local council to find them other accommodation.. It’s actually increasing in our area and they are cutting funding for homelessness. It’s bananas,” she said.
Residents of Gabriel House are now stuck living in limbo as they await the result of the council’s decision, which is due to be made in July. Rick Henderson, CEO at Homeless Link, the national membership body for frontline homelessness organisations, acknowledged councils were in an “extremely difficult” position, but said “cutting homelessness funding is a dangerous and short-sighted decision that will almost certainly lead to a significant rise in rough sleeping, as well as placing extra strain on health and emergency services”.
