Scientists examined the genetics of more than 70,000 men before finding DNA variants that have now been linked to male pattern baldness
Researchers in Germany may have cracked a cure for baldness after uncovering the rare gene mutations that cause a receding hairline.
The team at the University of Bonn, Germany, who published their research in the journal Nature Communications, hope their recent work could help identify those most at risk of baldness and boost their treatment options.Up to now, research has focussed on how baldness is inherited through common genes including androgen receptors, which are passed down through the mother’s X chromosome, the Daily Star reports.
“They are thus entirely new candidate genes, and we hypothesize that rare variants within these genes contribute to the genetic predisposition.”
