Two of Watford’s greatest players helped present the medals when a grassroots football tournament was held to honour the Hornets’ 1987 tour of China.
Comprised of teams representing China, Liaoning and Hubei provinces, Japan’s Mitsubishi, South Korea, Romania and Watford FC, the tournament represented the connection between the East and South East Asian communities in the Watford area and the club.Following the same format and fixtures of the original competition, the modern recreation saw Japan’s Mitsubishi face Hubei in a tense final, which ended 1-0 with Shun Okayama scoring the winner.
Blissett, who was top scorer in the 1987 tournament, said: “Ties between Watford and China have been there for a long time and exist now with the Frank Soo Foundation and ESEA Hornets. It’s beautiful to see and long may that continue.
