When a desperate Alicent tries to gain Rhaenys’ support through flattery, she cannot escape the practiced Targaryen’s discerning eye. Alicent appeals to Rhaenys’ ego, saying she should’ve been queen. Pretty convenient for her to say so now. Locking her in her room in King’s Landing and commandeering her dragon is not going to make her amenable to these effusions from the queen. But Rhaenys humors her for a bit, letting her know her overtures are at least indicative of some substance behind all of her acquiescence.

Lord Lyman Beesbury pays a price for speaking his mind, not that anyone actually commissions his death. Quick-tempered Criston sees him off.“A true queen counts the cost to her people,” Alicent says, brushing her shoulders off.“And yet you toil still in service to men — your father, your husband, your son,” she says.“You desire not to be free but to make a window in the wall of your prison,” Rhaenys continues.

When she shows up later after escaping to free her dragon, Alicent has no doubt that Rhaenys can and would have Mereys flambé them all — Aegon included — and be done with it. I mean, she’s already roasted her verbally, so ...
