THE MINISTER FOR Housing has rejected a warning that a government scheme to help first-time buyers get on the property ladder may push up house prices.
Michael Broderick, chief executive of the First Home scheme, said “there is a potential there to add to house price inflation”. Data in the second quarterly progress report shows that some 68% of scheme approvals have been for buyers in Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow. Apartments with a purchase price of up to €500,000 are also eligible for the scheme, depending on their location.
