Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner stressed the notice was precautionary and required by the state, and said he doesn’t believe water was contaminated or made unsafe to drink.
The notice forced the Houston Independent School District, which serves nearly 200,000 students, to close all schools and facilities Monday. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said in a tweet the city has to wait a minimum of 24 hours before lifting the notice, meaning it would likely expire late Monday or early Tuesday morning. Turner stressed the notice was precautionary and required by the state, and said he doesn’t believe water was contaminated or made unsafe to drink.
