Nearly half of over-65s in England are taking at least five different medications a day. Meanwhile, a third experience at least one fall a year. Experts think the two statistics are linked, but now help could be it on its way ⤵️

. With a rapidly ageing population, the incidence and prevalence of falls is expected to grow significantly.

The system could also help spot a wide range of other potential hazards by identifying people with drug combinations which put them at heightened risk of various side effects, such as changing blood pressure, dehydration or weight gain. “The relationships between patients and the people who cared for them were highly personal. But these days we live in a world where we frankly do not have enough resource to be sending out carers en mass every single day.”

“We are joining the dots and unlocking the vast benefits that better insights on medicines can bring to patients and health professionals,” Mr Dasu-Patel said.
