Beth Rees learned she was autistic last year after struggling with what psychiatrists told her was a breakdownADHD Beth grew up feeling “different and out of place” and would get upset easily when overwhelmed. “I hid under a table and cried when people sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to me at a party. Children just thought I was weird,” she remembers. But no one mentioned autism until she was 29. Her perspective on problems and creativity is useful in education and work. “Instead of writing reams for my university personal statement, I wrote it as a poem instead,” she remembers.
