FRISCO — Jayron Kearse wasn’t being subtle on a Tuesday afternoon when he tweeted a photo of what he believes of this Cowboys’ safety group. It was a snarling...
The safety room is a diverse group beginning with Kearse, who at six-foot-four uses his height to cover tight ends and play close to the line of scrimmage in run support. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn trusts Kearse with relaying the defensive signals that in some defenses goes to a linebacker. Last season Kearse led the Cowboys in tackles, becoming the first safety to accomplish this since Barry Church in 2014.
. It took Hooker, who suffered the injury in 2020, almost an entire year to find a comfort level and play with force. When Kearse was out, Quinn gave the defensive signal duties to Hooker.Outside of the physical abilities, it’s difficult to find statistics to describe the safeties impact. “From a tackling standpoint. The safety room is strong,” Quinn said. “JK will be back into the mix shortly as well, we hope. So adding him back into it along with those two, you can imagine as a coach what a good feeling that is. Man, am I impressed with that group. Malik has done such a good job of communicating and taking over that responsibility. I’m real proud of the work those three are putting in together.
Thomas’ asking price when he hit free agency and the draft capital it would take to acquire him when he played in Seattle, was too much. Adams, a Carrollton native, was sought but giving up what it would take in a trade was unrealistic to the Cowboys.
