I never ask for birthday or Christmas presents as I am simply not a materialistic person. If I need something, I will buy it myself
In terms of saving money each month, I rarely eat takeaways and have a number of loyalty and reward cards with retailers and supermarkets like Boots, Sainsbury’s and Tesco. I always stick to my shopping list when I go to a supermarket, as this helps ensure I do not waste food. I make a mental weekly meal plan in my head, so I know exactly what I need to buy.
I currently save around £1,000 to £1,500 a month. Most of this goes straight into my current account, and I try to put around £50 a month into my savings account. However, the interest rate on my savings account is low. I would like to have more pots of money and different accounts and financial products in future, but I want to research them carefully first. I am in the process of signing up to a six-month fixed bond.
I’d like to buy a freehold house in east Manchester rather than a leasehold flat. Leasehold properties can be problematic, and I have concerns over issues like cladding, service charges and ground rents. I want to be able to own the property outright, and be able to get a mortgage for it and sell it quickly should I want to in due course. I’d like to spend no more than £100,000 on buying my first home, but this is proving challenging as prices in Manchester are rising rapidly.
