The Sex Pistols lead singer went to court against his former bandmates as a result of the show.
In the late 1970s, nothing symbolised rebellion and anarchy more than the Sex Pistols. So it seems almost a miracle that it took this long for Disney+/FX'sBold, brash and with a don't-give-a-f**k attitude, the band teased the potential of a working-class uprising as they performed 'Anarchy in the UK' and 'God Save The Queen' down the River Thames and outside the Houses of Parliament.
John 'Johnny Rotten' Lydon, Paul Cook, Steve Jones and Glen Matlock became musical game-changers, proving that anyone could be a successful band, even if you weren't the best musicians – as long as the message was there for people to relate to. To onlookers, they were fighting the oppressive regime they raged about in their songs, but in reality, the Sex Pistols were mainly just fighting each other.
Despite their colossal legacy, the Sex Pistols lasted for one album and less than three years together, with group in-fighting exacerbated by their manager Malcolm McLaren.Speaking toabout his time in the band in September 2021, Lydon said:"I don't know that there was much glory. It was mostly hell on earth. There was constant pressure but I got to write the songs I wanted to write, got those lyrics out to Joe Public and Joe Public was very nice and appreciated it.
But now, it's these very lyrics that have become the driving force behind a new war between the band members, resulting in a High Court case in 2021., Lydon made no secret of his anger at the production and of"not being included" in the filmmaking process, labelling it toteam insists Danny Boyle had made attempts to reach out to Lydon through representatives, but their efforts were"ultimately declined".
