The long-anticipated refresh to Kirby Smart’s contract is complete and it’s significant.
The 10-year deal crosses the nine-figure mark for a total value is $112.5 million for the former Alabama defensive coordinator who beat his former employer for his first national title as a head coach.The Crimson Tide coach was the highest-paid coach in the nation last year and a new contract last summer assured he’d be near the top for the rest of his career.averages $10.6 million over an eight-year span for a total of $84.8 million.
Smart’s new contract is the first that would publicly move beyond Saban’s average payday. That’s important because Saban’s contract calls for automatic pay bumps if his salary falls below the top three in the SEC or the top five nationally.
