Lewis Hamilton is being tipped for the greatest win of his F1 career. ✏ Formula_Nerds
At a circuit that has provided some of Hamilton’s best performances in a F1 car, it’s hard to imagine that he’s only claimed the top spot three times at Interlagos. But even these victories were shrouded in drama.
After six laps behind the safety car due to bad weather, Hamilton led from the front during the 2016 edition of the Brazilian GP, with his teammate and arch rival Nico Rosberg sat just behind him. Despite the heavy downpour causing chaos for the rest of the field, Hamilton was untouchable, winning by over 11 seconds after three safety car restarts.
In 2018, Hamilton’s second win in Brazil helped him claim his 5th world title – but a certain Dutchman did his best to spoil the party. Starting on pole, Hamilton needed a win to beat about Sebastian Vettel in the race for the world dominance. But a young Max Verstappen got off to a storming start, qualifying 5th and making short work of those ahead of him, climbing into the top spot as the race reached the half way point.
Luckily for Hamilton, his future rivals progress was halted when Verstappen collided with Esteban Ocon as the Frenchman was trying to un-lap himself. Even with a damaged car and filled with rage, Verstappen dragged his Red Bull to a second place finish, but it wasn’t enough to stop Hamilton running away his 50th win in the turbo-hybrid era.
