One of the biggest questions for the Crew will be at center back, particularly if Nancy wants to play with three center backs as he did in Montreal. Under Caleb Porter, the Crew played with two center backs in all but four games of the 2022 season. Jonathan Mensah and Miloš Degenek were the most common pair, with 2,572 and 2,236 minutes apiece, and Josh Williams played 1,427 minutes.
After declining the contract option on Pedro Santos, depth at left back — which would become left wingback in a three center back structure — is thin.after starting five games while Santos was injured at various points throughout the season, but beyond him the next option is Jake Morris, who spent this past season with Crew 2.
