The National Weather Service is projecting flooding on the Russian River this week.
, and it's likely that many rivers, creeks and streams across Northern California will overrun their banks this week.at various points. You can check to see current water levels, as well as forecasts for when the river will crest. There's also the flood stage for key points along the river., you can focus in on where the Russian River runs through Guerneville. As of 8 a.m., the river there is at about 10 feet; it floods when it exceeds 32 feet.
Current projections have the Russian River flooding near Guerneville peaking at 1 a.m. Friday at 35.4 feet. At 35 feet, NOAA says"numerous businesses and homes in the lowest sections of towns begin to flood. In Guerneville, Sonoma West Inn begins to flood. More extensive flooding occurs at Parkers Resort. In Northwood, Lower Redwood Drive floods."
Keep in mind that once the rain stops, that doesn't mean flood danger is over. Runoff from hills continues to pour into rivers, creeks and streams for hours afterward. That's why the weather service is anticipating the most severe flooding along the Russian River on Friday, hours after the heaviest rain is expected to pelt the region.
