🔎 This is how rent prices in your area compare to the rest of the UK - as mortgage crisis hits tenants
The average cost of rent has surged by around £100 a month across the UK in the past year as rising mortgage rates are being passed on to tenants, campaigners say.
The biggest increase is in London where rents are up £230 a month, followed by Edinburgh at an increase of £140 a month and Manchester, at £110 a month.How rents are rising across the UK– £1,130 per month, up £140 – £868 per month, up £100 – £863 per month, up £80 – £764 per month, up £60 – £713 per month, up £30 Ben Twomey, director of Generation Rent, urged the Government to take action to prevent the squeeze getting even worse.
“If landlords are forced to sell, then it becomes even more urgent to give tenants better protections – that includes longer notice periods for eviction, support with moving costs, or measures to encourage landlords to sell with sitting tenants.”
