Indicators of COVID-19 circulation in Ireland are rising, with recent reports identifying the JN.1 variant as the predominant strain both in Ireland and worldwide

Ireland 's health authorities have provided an update on Covid-19, noting a marked increase in confirmed cases and hospitalisations in recent weeks.

On Thursday, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre reported that there have been 185 Covid cases confirmed as infected with the FLiRT lineage, making up 49.7% of sequences in the last five weeks.READ MORE: Advice on living with long Covid as 190,000 Irish adults suffer with symptoms The HPSC stated: "Indicators of COVID-19 circulation in Ireland are increasing. Several other European countries are reporting signals of increased COVID-19 activity also. The JN.1 COVID-19 variant is currently the predominant variant in Ireland and globally."

The HPSC advised that anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, even mild ones, should stay at home until 48 hours after the symptoms have mostly or fully subsided.
