Councillors will be asked next week to give their verdict on the development
Council officers have recommended the scheme be approved.
In a report going before Leeds’ city plans panel on August 11, they said the proposals would “bring diversity and supporting facilities to the growing residential community of the South Bank”. They added: “The primary school will make the area more attractive for families and couples wanting to stay local, and the care home adds a residential facility which may attract older people to nearby dwellings.”
When the plans were first publicly debated three years ago, councillors expressed concerns about the prospect of noise from a nearby glassworks disturbing residents living in the flats. In their report, officers acknowledged that this “is a concern” but added “the impacts have been properly assessed and concerns allayed by professional reports on noise and air quality, which have satisfied the council’s environmental health services”.
