Nico Hulkenberg believes his Haas Formula 1 team is still lacking race pace after falling down the order at the Canadian Grand Prix – and wants the issue to be solved in the long term.
Unfortunately for the Haas driver, the safety car came out on lap 15 after George Russell’s collision with the wall. This allowed drivers, who had not pit yet, to have cheap stops and come back out ahead of the German.after starting from 5th. “It definitely didn’t help, that’s for sure. Lost a whole bunch of places – the timing wasn’t great. Very different to Saturday with the red flag!“Maybe not so much here, but it was more pace that I felt we were missing compared to some of our main competitors.”The Haas driver was able to compete with cars around him during the opening few laps. However, tyre degradation prevented the 35-year-old from holding on to his position.
