Nigeria Independence Day celebration floods downtown Houston

The Nigeria Cultural Parade participants and attendants celebrate the Nigerian Independence Day in Houston, Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022.As the city with the second-largest Nigerian population, Houston has been considered a home away from home, and home took on an important meaning for attendees of the 6th Annual Nigeria Cultural Parade and Festival in downtown Houston Saturday.

Olaleye was born and raised in Nigeria, and came to Houston in 2001. For over 20 years, he has built a family in Houston with his wife and three children. Attendees celebrated the 62nd Nigeria Independence Day in style, as families arrived in matching clothing with bright colors and intricate patterns representing their heritage.
