The former Darwen Moorland High School is now set for 477 new new homes
A deal worth tens of millions of pounds has been struck between a council and major national housebuilder to construct 477 new homes on a former school site.
The sale of the land is set to be approved by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Executive Board on Thursday in a deal understood to be worth tens of millions of pounds. Vistry Partnerships – formed in 2020 with the merger of Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Galliford Try Partnerships – is already developing another controversial site in the borough for 165 new properties on 20 acres of green land in Whalley Old Road, Sunny Bower.
“This site was ear-marked for development in the 2015 Local Plan and we worked closely with two local agents on the masterplan for the site, boasting quality homes for market sale, affordable houses and properties at affordable rent plus a good use of the green space. The firm plans to build 477 properties including 36 for affordable rent, 110 for shared ownership and 24 starter homes. The affordable homes will be managed by the Together Housing Group.
