Hundreds of people turned up for the funeral of a woman who died alone after a Carlow-based undertaker appealed at the last hour for members of the public to attend.
Ms Regan, who would have turned 90 next March, was predeceased by all of her siblings - Paddy, Con, Patricia and Jerry. Mr Healy explained that he did not want Ms Regan to have a funeral with “only a few people in attendance” for the daily 9.30am mass and “I did not want to send Mary off from Carlow alone". "Her partner used to visit her every day in Hillview Nursing Home every day religiously until he passed away. Mary was a gentle and quiet lady,” he said.
“Mary only had one nephew based in Cork and he was unable to attend, unfortunately. But there really was a great sense of humanity and community from all of the members of the public who arrived into the church.
