Sources claim the Honda Civic believed to have hit Carol Seery, 67, as she crossed a road in Dublin on Wednesday evening was bought just days before
Cops were last night hunting a suspected hit-and-run driver thought to have killed a retired garda’s wife in a crash as he sped away from a patrol car.And detectives probing the tragedy in the Phibsborough area are hopeful of tracking down the suspect after tracing the man who legitimately sold the car.Sources have told us that Ms Seery was just inches from safety when the car collided with her at high speed on the Phibsborough Road at 9.06pm.
The Honda failed to stop at the scene and was found abandoned on nearby Avondale Road a short time later. Gardai are mounting an investigation into the tragedy – but there is also a parallel probe by the independent policing watchdog GSOC.Sources claim the Garda car had only been in pursuit of the car for less than a minute after officers observed the Honda breaking a red light.Video footage from a webcam shows the Honda speeding along the busy road at 9.
A spokesperson said: "Gardai continue to investigate all the circumstances of a fatal traffic collision at the Cross Guns Bridge on Phibsborough Road, Dublin 7, which occurred at approximately 9.10pm on Wednesday. "Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mountjoy Garda station on 01 666 8600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
