Respects were paid
A branch of the Royal British Legion commemorated the 70 year anniversary of the armistice of the Korean War.
Many have called this the “forgotten war” despite 60,000 service personnel from all walks of life across Britain and 50,000 from the Commonwealth seeing action alongside a United Nations coalition which comprised 63 nations and represented the first UN peace enforcement operation. Alongside more than 1,100 British killed in action, more than 2,500 British personnel wounded and 1060 taken prisoner. Many of those sent from the UK were on National Service.
Born in Dill Hall Lane in Church and was a pupil of Rhyddings Secondary Modern School in Oswaldtwistle. James had only been on the front line for a week when he was killed in action on July 12 1952.
