Northbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Cumberland County are closed due to a crash Tuesday evening, according to PennDOT. The crash was first reported around 7 p.m., in the area of Exit 47 PA 34/Hanover Street in Carlisle, but all lanes were reported to be closed by around 7:30 p.m.— 511PA Harrisburg PennDOT spokeswoman Fritzi Schreffler said the incident started as a motorcycle crash, but the rider was able to get up and ride away. However, while state police were responding to that scene, they noticed a vehicle had spilled some kind of material into the road.
Schreffler could not specify what material it was, but it is not liquid and is a couple inches thick. The vehicle that spilled the material did not stop at the scene.
