I prevent my clothes getting worn out by doing 1 basic task after washing and drying them

I do one thing to maintain my clothes' condition and prevent permanent creases, and it's so easy

When it comes to laundry , I, like many people, typically call it a day after the washing and drying stages, but there's another step that genuinely helps to keep clothes in top condition for longer, and that's ironing , specifically steam ironing.

While traditional irons smooth out visible creases, steam ironing goes a step further. With steam ironing, the steam penetrates deep into the fibres to realign those that have become distorted through washing and wear. This doesn't just restore garments to their original shape but also helps prevent permanent creases and fibre damage, I wrote for the Express . I've recently been putting the Philips PerfectCare 7000 Series Steam Generator Iron through its paces to assess the advantages of steam ironing, and I was rather impressed by it. Priced at £399.99 , the first thing that caught my attention about the Philips steam iron was undoubtedly its size. The iron itself is remarkably lightweight, but the base is substantial and fairly heavy. Given its considerable dimensions, this iron is ideal for those who handle a substantial amount of laundry each week and have adequate storage space. Fortunately, I have a sizeable ironing board to accommodate the iron's ample rest. I've been putting this iron to the test since last month on a variety of garments that are suitable for ironing after being dried outside, from shirts and dresses to t-shirts and trousers. Setting up the iron was a breeze, with straightforward instructions and clearly labelled functions. A steam generator iron looks and operates somewhat differently to a standard iron owing to its separate water tank, but I found it remarkably easy to get to grips with. The moment you switch it on, the sheer power of the iron becomes immediately apparent, as it produces quite a considerable amount of noise. In terms of tackling creases, the difference was truly noticeable after using this steam iron. I was genuinely impressed by how swiftly a shirt could be ironed and how effortless the whole process felt, with the finish being far superior to anything I'd previously achieved with my regular iron. The iron features two steaming functions — a button beneath the handle and an auto button on top. I preferred the button under the handle for greater control, but wasn't particularly keen on the auto button, as it continuously released steam. The sheer volume of steam produced by the iron can make the room rather warm, so it's worth cracking open a window or switching on your dehumidifier while working through your ironing pile. At £399.99, the Philips PerfectCare 7000 Series Steam Generator Iron is a considerable investment, though well worth the outlay if you have a substantial amount of laundry to tackle and sufficient space to store it. That said, if you're looking for a more budget-conscious option, there are plenty of alternatives available. For £89.99, you can get your hands on the Philips 3000 Series Steam Generator Iron at Argos . Alternatively, if you're looking for an even more budget-friendly option, the Russell Hobbs Steam Iron is currently a number one best seller on Amazon, for just £33 .
