💬 ‘I quit the Met Police after just 11 months after witnessing how quickly new recruits turn bad’
Medical standards for police recruitment state applicants with depression are likely to require further investigation and assessment.
The Met introduced new professional practice standards in April 2021. However, Andy Marsh, chief executive of the National College of Policing, told BBC’sHe said: “There are two questions: are the standards good enough and have the standards been applied consistently?And the answer to both is no.
He also said there was a real focus on meeting targets on the number of arrests and stop and searches as opposed to serving the public. He added that there was a reluctance among officers to get out of vehicles and speak to members of the public. “I don’t hear much about them trying to understand their own culture and start to address that and look at look at how people get promoted, what sort of personalities are getting promoted, what makes a good manager of people, that kind of thing,” the former PC added.
