Food inflation has finally started to show signs of waning – but prices remain well into double-digit territory and are still rising at their fastest rate in nearly 45 years Take a look at how Myron_Jobson is still battling to cut his shopping bill ⬇️

So, my personal food inflation number is 17 per cent in the year to April 2023 – 2.1 percentage points lower than the headline 19.1 per cent average household figure.

Also, apparently, we spent £1.90, on average, on ”tuber” – better known as root – vegetables other than potatoes. I certainly don’t buy cassava or turnips often, but I do infrequently purchase sweet potatoes – but not £1.90 worth. I’m grateful to be in the financial position to take the price rises on the chin, but rampant inflation hinders my ability to save for various things – namely aI shop at Lidl now, to save on the cost of groceries. I hold my hands up and say that I was a bit of my snob at first. I particularly didn’t trust the quality of the fresh meat, chicken and fish on offer. Why? Ignorance – sheer ignorance. But I’m a convert now, and I think that the quality of the shop’s fresh bakes is particularly good.

I’ve also recently started to create weekly meal plan, which helps save me from having to do expensive top-up shops. This approach allows you to purchase ingredients in bulk, reducing waste and optimising your grocery expenditure.I’ve been channelling my inner Gordon Ramsey to cook delicious meals to save on the cost of ready meals and eating out which can be costly. Cooking at home not only provides healthier options but also allows you to control costs by buying ingredients in their raw form.
