Second-gen Google smartwatch has Wear OS 4, a new chip, better apps and longer battery life
Google’s Pixel 2 smartwatch puts right many of its predecessor’s issues, with a much faster chip, longer battery life and better health features.
It comes with a silicone band – various styles are available from both Google and third parties – and it will fit with any band made for the original Pixel Watch, using the same button-release system to make them easy to swap out. More third-party apps are starting to arrive for Google’s reinvigorated watch platform. A recent addition is the WhatsApp app in which you can start or reply to conversations on your wrist – Apple Watch cannot do this yet. You can also download the likes of Strava and Komoot direct to your watch.
For general health monitoring, Watch 2 has heart rate monitoring, ECGs, steps and excellent sleep tracking. When starting a run, you can choose the data fields you want displayed but the options are limited compared to other watches. Missing are features such as running dynamics, cadence, route guidance and other bits that are available on Samsung, Apple and Huawei watches.
