Tobi was in foster care when a local gang took an interest in him Lonely and afraid, he came to see them as his family – and ended up in jail Now, he’s helping to raise awareness around human trafficking and slavery LaurenMedlicott reports
. So when they told me that to be a part of their group I would have to deal drugs for them, I agreed and started selling drugs throughout London.. I thought they would come back at the end of the first day, but they left me. Two days later, my brother’s gang raided the house I was staying in. I didn’t know at the time, but the gang I had gotten involved with were the enemies of my brother’s gang.
“A boy of your age couldn’t be living that kind of life,” social services told me. “You’re fantasising.”I just couldn’t think of what to do next to protect myself and my foster mum. So I went back to my brother’s gang, and that’s when they gave me the guns. On a two-week trip to Aberdeen during that same summer, I was taught how to dismantle, clean, and shoot guns.for the first time after school.I was involved in full-on warfare. My brother’s gang versus five other gangs.
When I got out, even though I felt betrayed, I knew I had to return to the gang. Where else would I go? My enemies would try to kill me if I didn’t.. I smoked a lot of weed during my childhood. I couldn’t sleep, and at different points, felt like I was going insane. I didn’t understand what my life was, and what it had become.
